Last Blog For English

1) I think I have changed alot in this school year. In September I was more quiet and kept to myself alot and now I don't mind speaking out when I need to. What classes I enjoy and what classes I don't like has alos changed as well. English and Art are probably two fo my favorite classes now because not alot of home work is givin and the assighnments are fun and makse the class go by faster. In September i didn't really like English alot but as the year progressed I liked it more and more.

2) Some topics I disliked in this years English class was when we read Animal Farm. The book didn't really appeal to me and the assighnments in my opionion were not that fun. Another thing that I didn't like was how we didn't finish a few movies and only saw parts of them. But otherwise I really like this class and it has been a fun year.

3) I really didn't think anything in this class was too difficult, all of the assighnments were understandible and the directions were clear. But if I had to choose the hardest one, I would have to say the Essay on modern monsters that i completed a month of two ago. The reason it was most difficult is because it was the most time consuming project we did in here and alot of research was required. There was also a high stress level becaus ethe due date was very close when I was not close to being done, but twards the end it was extended which took off alot of the stress. Even though the project took so long it was worth it because the grade I got brought up the marking period grade alot. I rose to the occasion by using time wisely and getting the research I needed to complete the project.

4) My favorite topic in this class was probably when we read Romeo and Juliet. I liked it because besides from being able to watch the movie, the book was really good. I was able to understand everything and I liked the language of that time. It didn't really make me think about anything in specific but I really enjoied learning and will probably read the book and see the movie again in the future.

5) If I could give the upcoming Freshman class any advise for next year it would be to complete your work in this class and pay attention. The reason is because I learned alot from this class and it benefited me in alot of ways. I became a better writer and my vocabulary has expanded greatly since the beginning of the year. My last bit of advise would also be to have fun and not take things TOO seriously.

Teen Alcohol Statistics

Something i found suprising about teen drinking was that in Sussex County in 1996, only 9 kids were arrrested for DUI. In 2006, 20 kids were arrested.

Another thing that was shocking to me was that 14% of 8th grade students in Sussex County have used alcohol last month. I think that schools should have more assemblies, and health classes should educate kids more in schools about the outcome of under age drinking. If the schools were to tell the kids more about what can happen to you if you get caught drinking, they will maybe decide no to drink anymore or ever even start.

in class writing assignment for 2/26/08

1. In today's world I do think that young people grow up too quickly. Alot of teenagers and younger kids seem to be the ones supporting their family in this day and age. Many families with alot of kids in the house rely on the oldest children to make some money to support them.
I also see alot of kids having to buy thier own clothing, and also sometimes food. I think that if an adult decides to have a child they should be able to care for them and provide them what they need.

2. Gerald is different from other high school students because he is the one that is holding the family together. He takes care of his sister and makes money to get the family what they need while Jordan was in jail and not able to make money for the family. Most kids in high school do not have that much to worry about and do not have to care for a younger sibling by themselvs. The way Gerald is now will affect him when he gets older because he will learn to take care of himself as well as for others. I think him having these expierences will make him stronger and he will learn from them.

3-E. A time in my life when I had to choose between what was popular and what i knew was right was when there was a new girl at my old school and she could not find her class. She was getting laughed at and people were calling her names because of her getting lost. Some of the more "popular" kids would laugh and make negative facial expressions at her while they walked past and it was making her upset. A few of my friends were also making fun aswell but I knew that it wasnt fun at all being the new kid. While she was Wlking down the halls looking for her class, I went over and helped her find it and talked to her and made her feel more comfortable in the new environment. My friends said I was a looser and that I ditched them for her but it felt right to help someone who was lost and uncomfortable around new people.

chapter 7 response

A time in my life when I felt a sence of loss was last year in January when my grandfather died. I was very close with him and saw him at least 1 time every week. On sundays when I went to church with my family him and my grandmother would always come too. And afterwards we would go out to breakfast with them. He would always tell good jokes and was able to make us all laugh no matter what. And even if he was feeling his worst, and when he was in the hospital sick, when asked how he was he would respond, "Wonderful." and say it with a smile. One day when i came home from school my mom was standing in the hall with a nervous look on her face and I knew what was coming. She told me that my grandfater had died. I delt with it by just going into my room and locking the door. I dont like to talk about things when im upset so i just stayed in there in lisened to my ipod for hours. I handle alot of my problems by just being alone. I think this expierence is similar to Gerald's because he lost a loved one who was very close to him and so did I. The two are also different because Gerald went with his aunt because of an abuseive relationship with his parents, and did not have that many people who loved him in his life and I have my family as support when ever i need it.

Real life propaganda technique 2

"Plain Folks", or "a folksy approach to convince us to support someone or something which depicts ordinary people doing ordinary things." is also another technique that is seen alot in advertisements. For example, of a company was trying to sell window cleaner, a good approach to getting costomers to buy would be to use someone who isn't famous to advertise it. This shows the costomer that if an every day person is using it and getting good results than it would be a good product for them to buy.

Real life propaganda technique 1

In real life, I think that the "Testimonial" propaganda technique is the most commonly used. On television and in magazines celebrity faces are used to sell more of the product, or get it out into the public if it's a new product then the famous faces will get the product out into the public and it will sell faster and more effectively. If just everyday people had to go out onto the streets and have nothing but themselves to sell the product there would be alot less products out on the market today.

Animal Farm 3

In chapter 2, another propaganda technique used is "Name Calling." this is used when the pigs come up with the 7 commandments and say that anyone with two legs is an enemy. This "Attaches a negative label" to humans and also "Rather than explaining what they believe in, they prefer to tear their opponent down."

Animal Farm 2

In chapter 1, Old Major agian tells all the other animals that if they do not drive out Mr. Jones that they would never be able to be free and will be under his rules. The choices that seem to be givin are drive out the humans, or always just have to work and be "starved" by them. This type of propaganda technique is "Black and White Thinking." The animals believe Old Major and drive out the humans from the farm, but then are wosre off than they were before.

Animal Farm 1

In the book Animal Farm, one of the propaganda techniques that was used was the "Band Wagon." This is used when Old Major tells all of the other animals that Mr. Jones is making their lives more difficult and that he didn't treat them right. Old Major makes them believe that they should all drive him out and that they all should revolt against him and if they didn't they would never be happy.
